Song to Ming Dynasty Cast Iron Daoist Buddhist Head

About the Item

Daoist sage, official, or possibly a Buddhist acolyte. A large, thick and heavy cast iron statue of a head. Custom vintage carved hardwood stand finishes off this outstanding and decorative bust, circa 10th - 14th century or earlier. Measures: Height on stand 16 inches (40.5 cm) Width 8 inches (20.5 cm) Depth 8.5 inches (21.5 cm) 10th- 14th century Chinese cast iron image of the Buddhist figure. Beautifully cast in life size proportions. It is an esoteric initiation toward promoting the monk into further mysteries of magical practices in Buddhism. Early Ming Buddhist images were often produced in cast iron. This is an especially good example of excellent proportion and esthetic balance in Buddhist sculpture. This figure reflects a very Chinese taste. AVANTIQUES is dedicated to providing an exclusive curated collection of Fine Arts, Paintings, Bronzes, Asian treasures, Art Glass and Antiques.
