About the Item

The Collection This collection offers ideas for contemporary décor through sophisticated revelations of art bound to the tradition of ceramics of Caltagirone, objets d’art that combine history and design. The extreme attention to details, supported by twenty years of experience of master craftsmen, is the company’s strength. The production technique hides secrets and art mixtures that make the product unique and exclusive. Mosche Bianche chooses to combine art and design to recall history through ceramic artworks in doing so, history revives, as in a fairy tale, an incredible civilization that is the sicilian culture. The moorish heads in ceramics, tribute to the beauty of ancient Sicily and its traditions, draw inspiration from a legend of love and jealousy set during the arabic domination in Sicily. A Story Of Love And Jealousy The legend tells that during the moorish domination in Sicily around 1000, in the arabic district of Palermo “al hàlisah” that a moor who, overwhelmed by a violent passion, declared his love to her. Noticed means “the chosen one”, a sweet girl the young girl charmed by his promise of love reciprocated. However, the moor was hiding a terrible truth. He already had a wife and children back home. So, when the girl discovered it, she decided to keep his beloved face with her forever. Without hesitation, she cut off his head and create a vase in which she planted a basil shoot. This aromatic plant has always had an aura of holiness as it represents the rulers’ plant. In this sense, that terrible act was justified by her absolute love to continue to take care of her beloved young moor. Every day in fact, the tears of the young heart-broken girl watered the plant of basil that kept thriving and flourishing. And all the neighbours, inebriated by that sentof the beautiful plant, started to commission clay vases shaped as a moor head. Contemporary Ceramic Sculpture Grimilde Head by Vanessa Semaino
By Rossana Orlandi
Located in Milan, IT
The “Surolù” art works - this is artistic identity chosen by Vanessa Semaino - arise from the artist 's need to represent women’s condition today, particularly in their emotional states that confer their unique identities. These precious ceramic sculptures, entirely handcrafted and decorated, represent female Moor’s heads. They were conceived as an expression of an introspective journey that relates Vanessa’s Sicilian origins and to her professional experience in the fashion stylistic field. The artist introduces, for the first time, the repeated use of sociological themes of current relevance through a visually immediate language, represented in her art works with a contemporary pop aesthetic. “Grimilde” is an artwork that addresses the dilemma of envy within the context of the seven deadly sins, through a representation that merges the wicked characters from fairy tales into a single figure. In it, there are recognizable references to Grimhilde, the witch from “Snow White”, the Queen of Hearts from “Alice in Wonderland,” and Cruella De Vil, all aimed at portraying envy in a world dominated by social media and the constant quest for approval and affirmation. The artwork is named after the evil queen from Snow White, and her figure is made evident by the turban that frames the face, emphasizing its features and wrinkled expression. The dress, with a black and white checkered pattern with red details, evokes that of the Queen of Hearts, as seen in the large red hearts decorating the crown, replacing the traditional acanthus leaves of typical Sicilian Moorish heads...
