"Eat At Joes" Neon Sculpture by Rudi Stern
About the Item
Rudi Stern, born Rudolph George Stern in New Haven Connecticut on 30 November 1936, was a world renown multimedia artist best remembered for his work in neon. Initially trained as a painter, Stern studied with the artists Hans Hoffman and Oskar Kokoschka. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bard College in 1958 and received his masters in 1960 from the University of Iowa.
Moving to New York in the mid-1960s Stern collaborated with the artist Jackie Cassen on luminous kinetic installations including, for LSD evangelist Dr. Timothy Leary, "Psycedelic Celebrations". In 1969 he was one of the co-founders of Global Village, the pioneering experimental video center and performance space in SoHo, New York.
During the 1960s Stern became famous for his avant-garde light shows and advocacy of video art. In the 1970s he was responsible for reviving the dying craft of neon which was all the rage in the 1930s in the United States. In 1972 he founded the studio and gallery Let There Be Neon. It was here that Stern designed lighting for theatre, opera, television and films along with pieces for music groups like the Doors and the Byrds. His best known neon work includes pieces for Studio 54, the Broadway production of "Kiss Of The Spiderwoman" and installations for performance artists Laurie Anderson and Nam June Paik.
In his later life Stern turned to documentary filmmaking. He also wrote several books, including "Let There Be Neon" (Abrams, 1979) and its sequel "The New Let There Be Neon" (Abrams, 1988).

Smokin' Joe Stalin Sculpture by Frank Kozik
By Frank Kozik
Located in Weesp, NL
Limited 50 pieces Bronze edition created by Frank Kozik and sculptured by Brin Berliner in 2007. This massive 16"-er tall rotocast vinyl bust has been sold out in a flash and is not for sale anywhere else. Bust has never been exposed and always kept in its original box. Measurements: H.36 x W.24 x D.20 cm. Frank Kozik was born in Madrid, Spain. At the age of 14 he moved to the United States and settled in Austin, Texas. Credited with single handedly reviving the “lost” art of the concert poster, Frank’s creative career grew largely out of his enthusiasm for Austin’s growing underground rock scene in the mid-eighties. Starting with black and white flyers for friends’ bands posted on telephone poles, his reputation grew as an artist whose work was arresting as well as gripping. Kozik has done over 60 gallery shows worldwide, with multiple exhibits in Tokyo and London. Kozik has done graphic design for dozens of major companies such as NIKE, BASF and Gatorade. He also directed music videos for Soundgarden and Mint Condition. Kozik is currently based in San Francisco, California, where he produces artwork and graphics, and formerly managed his own record label, Man’s Ruin as well as Rise Records. His work is well known to devotees of album-cover art and concert flyer art. He has produced artwork for musicians such as Pearl Jam,Nirvana, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Neil Young, Sonic Youth, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane’s Addiction, Ice T, George Clinton, Green Day, Beck, The Offspring, The Melvins and many more. Kozik has also designed a pair of Artist Edition Oakley sunglasses. Three volumes of his collected poster and album cover designs have been published and are widely available. A new Book, Plasticland, published by Dark Horse Publications was released in January 2008 and is a photo essay of his last 4 years work as a toy designer. Kozik also edited and published Panda Meat, a volume of contemporary gig poster...
