About the Item

Magnificent vintage figural large hand carved marble embracing couple sculpture & slate tile covered plywood pedestal. This fabulous piece is signed but we have been unsuccessful in reading the signature or finding the talented artist! Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Slate on base was coming loose from plywood so it was removed and reglued. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1980’s. Have you ever loved someone so deeply that you can literally feel their soul touching yours? Their presence exists within every beat of your heart, in every breath you take, and in the very blood running through your veins. A love so intense it makes every fiber of your being feel warm, wanted, and alive? An intimacy that only you two understand. Absolute and undeniable physical and emotional attraction… so intwined that you can hear their every thought without speaking a word, feel every touch without a movement, and see every curve of their body with your eyes closed. In their arms you have no imperfections, nothing can hurt you, and you are safe in a way that only they can bestow. They are half of you… and together... You are one. Love like that doesn’t come around very often, so if you are lucky enough to find it… Cherish it!! Anyway, that’s what I see when I view this magnificent figural sculpture. It is comprised of a beautifully hand carved & intricately hand sculpted marble couple wrapped in a passionate embrace. Their bodies are covered with colorful hand drawn markings, possibly to express an interpretation of their intertwined lives or a representation of a love so deep that their blood runs through each other’s veins. That is for you to decide. It has a carved signature but sadly throughout extensive research, we have been unable to identify the highly skilled sculptor that created this masterpiece. We obtained it from a woman that told us an interesting fact that her father bought it in Santa Barbara in the 80’s, but he has since passed away and unfortunately left no documentation. It is solid, heavy, and quite large scale weighing 230 pounds and standing 47 ¾ inches high stabilized by a steel rod upon a gorgeous plywood base encased in black slate tiles with gray grout trimmed edges. It is going to be incredible in your home whether displayed in an entry way, family room, bedroom, or any room that could use a powerful statement you are sure to love for years to come! The actual definition of love is “a strong feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection. A profoundly tender, passionate affection, often mingled with desire, for another person.” Well, we have a strong feeling that you have fallen in love with this phenomenal figural sculpture as much as we have. Don’t let it get away! You simply MUST make it YOURS!!!! There he is… out in the distance standing on the cliffs edge, rearing with a colossal power that only a wild stallion exudes… Thrusting his hooves at the setting sun as if to say, “this is MY mountain, MY meadows, and MY heard.” He commands attention, he is dignified, and he is EXQUISITE. We have a marvelous cast metal bronze tone stylized rearing horse standing on a beautiful black marble base to offer to you. Attributed to C. Jere (a.k.a.) Curtis Jere which is not a single artist but is a nom-de-plume for a group of artists working for Artisan House and well known for their phenomenal jewelry, metal sculptures, and collectibles. And this abstract rearing horse is a perfect example of their remarkable pieces!! Unlike other rearing horse sculptures, this one has a single back and front leg… it appears to have been cast this way and we think he is extraordinary. This sculpture will look fabulous on your desk, coffee table, or on a shelf in any room of your home. And though it’s modern, it will be beautiful anywhere you want to add a little abstract flair. This is just the sculpture you’ve been looking for! Artisan House artists included founders Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels and Curtis Jere is a combination of their names. Before founding Artisan House these two friends and brothers-in-law had built a costume jewelry business which sold under the names of Renoir and Matisse, two well-known names of mid-20th century costume jewelry. During the mid-20th century, the C. Jere sculptures, and metal work were distributed by Raymor, a well-known name in Mid Century collectibles, and sold at Gump’s in San Francisco and other upscale retail establishments. Jerry Fels died 11...

SHE is complicated… SHE is strong… when she isn’t feeling weak. SHE is happy… when she isn’t feeling sad. SHE can do anything placed in front of her… if she can get out of bed. SHE is bold and daring… but sometimes she feels simple. SHE is independent… but sometimes she needs you. She doesn’t want to “blend in” … but she’s judged if she “stands out.” SHE is too old to wear this and too young to wear that. She is too fat; she is too thin… She is your best friend… but SHE is her own worst enemy. She is aged longing for her youth… she is young longing for adulthood. SHE has been labeled as mother, grandmother, wife, girlfriend, partner, daughter, sister… but WHO is SHE to herself?? If SHE is strong willed… she is a b**ch. If SHE is sexy or seductive… she is a tramp. If SHE is reserved… she is a prude. She doesn’t care… but she really cares TOO much! If she could see herself as others do, she would see that SHE is a creation of perfection. Exactly who she is supposed to be. Unique. Individual. Irreplaceable. Definition of a woman? SHE is a masterpiece… but SHE is complicated. We have an incredible life-sized art assemblage created by renowned designer Susan Tibbles for your viewing pleasure! This piece is titled “Master Lock,” and was custom made and hand crafted by Susan Tibbles in 1989. It is composed of a masterfully sculpted and crafted 3-diminsional woman’s silver negligee, thigh high fish net stockings with lock details on the thigh straps, black spiked stiletto heels, and a silver beaded & spiked neck collar with a ring attached to a full-length chain draping from the collar to a hook at the top of the case. The chain hangs down to the base of the case where it gathers between the spiked heels. SASSY!! The sculpture stands in front of a black leather-like back drop inside a monumental black and white display case...
