19th Century Bronze Statue of Venus Aphrodite

About the Item

A beautiful antique bronze statue depicting Aphrodite / Venus, a goddess from classical antiquity. This bronze statue dates from circa 1870 and was made in France. The statue is not signed, it is a statue made after an antique example. L'Aphrodite of Capua is a Roman marble sculpture (2nd century AD) preserved at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. Found in the ruins of Santa Maria Capua Venere, on the occasion of the excavations that involved the area of Campania amphitheater. The statue depicts a Venus half-naked resting with her left foot on the helmet of Mars, the raised arms indicate that probably there must also have been a shield, used by the goddess to mirror herself. The statue is in good condition, with a nice antique patina on a marble foot. The patina has a little wear, appropriate with the age. Very refined casting, typical for this period. Dimensions: 26 (h) x 11 x 7 cm.
