19th Century Painted Polychrome Terracotta Sculpture Signed G. Van Vaerenbergh

About the Item

This tall antique terracotta composition was crafted in Belgium, circa 1890. The sculpture, signed on the side G. Van Vaerenbergh with the number 246, depicts two expressive, young boys in rustic clothing, one carrying the other on his back. The large piece is in excellent condition with rich polychrome colors in the beige and brown palette. The artist, Gustave Van Vaerenbergh (1873-1927), was a Belgium sculptor; he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. He was mainly known for his women's busts and children compositions. Measures: 9" W x 10" D x 27" H.
