About the Item

This is a unique wooden sculpture carved from a natural burl, making full use of the organic form of the wood. The artist is unknown, but as it was sourced within Japan, we have described it, for convenience, as a piece created in Japan. The material appears to be a dense hardwood, likely from a broadleaf tree. The sculptor has utilized an especially prominent burl—its natural swelling and curvature forming the base for what resembles the shape of an apple. A stem-like detail is carved at the top, while a small dimple at the bottom mimics the indentation found at the base of fruit. These carefully rendered elements give the work a sense of harmony between nature and human craftsmanship. Smooth, flowing curves and bold, energetic wood grain coexist in this piece, offering a different expression from every angle. The surface carries a warm, tactile quality, and the sculpture holds a strong presence as an art object. It can stand on its own, but it is a little prone to falling over, so you can place a non-slip rubber sheet or something similar on the bottom to make it more stable. It weighs approximately 4.6kg, has a diameter of approximately 24cm, and is approximately 31cm high, giving it a striking size. This piece would make a striking accent in a variety of settings—an entryway, living room, or even as a display object in a retail space. The natural irregularities of the wood, combined with the artistry of its form, create a compelling visual that speaks directly to the viewer’s sensibility. Item number: sc120
