Original large Art Deco sculpture 'L'Age Du Bronze,' by Demetre Chiparus metal sculpture, circa 1925 A powerful French statue sometimes referred to as the famous 'bending bar man' It was made in two sizes and this one is the much rarer larger size. Demétre Chiparus (16 September 1886-22 January 1947) was a Romanian Art Deco era sculptor who lived and worked in Paris, France. He was one of the most important sculptors of the Art Deco era. Resting on a black variegated marble plinth, signature engraved D.H.Chiparus to the top of the plinth in very good condition for its age with superb patina The marble base has a couple of small chips to the edge and one very minor surface crack not structural or prominent or distracting and one very small minor loss to one lower corner The detail in the sculpture is of the finest quality. The base is stepped and made of portoro marble and signed D.H.Chiparus. This is a rare find in this size and Chiparus pieces continue to climb in value as his work is featured at every major auction house throughout the world, such as Christie’s, Bonham’s and Sotheby’s. “L’Age du Bronze” is one of the few male sculptures he produced and is featured in the book Chiparus – Master of Art Deco by Alberto Shayo on page 65.
