Chiparus Bronze and Bone Art Deco Hush Sculpture

About the Item

Demeter Chiparus was the leading sculptor of the Art Deco period . His sculptures are not , like so many other sculptors, academical representatives . They are testimonys of its time and celebrate famous artists of the Art Deco period . The elaborate use of ivory, like here and of bronze is called chryselanphantine and dates back to the ancient Greeks. It enhances the sculptor with a precious touch and of course turns the sculpture into a kind of jewel. The ivory was hand carved and painted. Red for the lips, brown for the eyebrows , blue for the eyes. The bronze was exquisitely molded and hand finished . The final touch was the cold painted colored details on the dresses . The socles could be of portor black marble, green or brown onyx. The signature was hand carved Chiparus and often Etling who was the editor . Etling was a famous art editor for whom many artist of the Art Deco period worked . These 2 names are synonymous of high quality.
