Art Deco Chiparus Bronze Sculpture
About the Item
1920s solid bronze sculpture of a seated flapper girl. She is solid bronze with a gold and silver and green patina on a marble base. Signed by the artist, Demetre Chiparus. The marble is Beige with a pink cast to it.
Romanian artist Demetre Chiparus (1886-1937). Demetre Chiparus was considered one of the main sculptors of the Art Deco movement, his ability to imply movement worked well with the playful dancers he so often sculpted. His Art Deco pieces produced in Paris between 1913 and 1933 are of chryselephantine, a type of figural sculpture in which the flesh was made of ivory and the drapery of gold and he was considered one of the most important realist artist of his time. In 2007 his Les Girls (1928) sold at auction for as much as $936,000 according to Heritage Auctions and many of his works are found in famous collections.
