About the Item

A mythological piece depicting Atlas. In Greek mythology, Atlas (Greek: Ἄτλας, Átlās) is a Titan/God condemned to hold up the heavens or sky for eternity after the Titanomachy. Atlas plays a role in the myths of the greatest Greek heroes: Heracles (Hercules in Roman mythology) and Perseus. This small bronze ornament on a nickel plated semi-sphere carries a sphere made from blue lacquered wood. It is of European origin, possibly dutch and was made circa 1910-40. It has no markings. Measurements: H: 17 cm, Diameter: 10 cm (base).
