About the Item
This beautiful Art Deco sculpture was created in the 1920s during the height of the Deco period by Austrian sculptor Gerda Gerdago, originally Gottstein. Her career began as a costume designer before she became known as a pre-eminent sculptor. She was trained in both Berlin and Paris. The work is signed. It also features the signature jewel in her works, in this case, a turquoise earring.

Gerda Gerdago was an Austrian costume designer born in Vienna in 1906. Gerdago’s career began as a costume designer for theatrical productions and then took those designs into sculpture. Gerdago died in 2004.
