Art Deco sculpture by Gerhard Schliepstein for Rosenthal, "Diana" ca. 1933–1934. Porcelain, white, glazed. Base signed: G. Schliepstein (embossed). Marked: Manufacturer's mark (green, under glaze), 22 x 32 cm. Gerhard Schliepstein (1886 - 1963) was a highly regarded German sculptor and designer known for his contributions to the Art Deco movement, particularly in the realm of porcelain models. His work is celebrated for its elegance, craftsmanship, and significant impact on the world of decorative arts. Schliepstein's journey as an artist began with his early education under the guidance of Wilhelm Bayern, which provided him with a strong foundation in sculpture. However, it was his further studies at the Academy for Plastic Arts in Berlin starting in 1907 that truly refined his skills and artistic vision.
