Art Deco Sculpture by Kunstanstalt WMF Geislingen, Germany

About the Item

Art Deco sculpture crafted of bronze with brown patina, depicting a nude crouched woman holding a drapery. The figure is resting on a red and beige marble plinth. The bronze is marked FZP and dated 1921. Rectangular stamp, marked: Kunstanstalt WMF Geislingen Ste, circa 1921 Dimensions: W 9.1 in, D 5.5 in, H 16.3 in. Dimensions: L 23 cm, P 14 cm, H 41.5 cm. Literature: The WMF Group (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) is a German tableware manufacturer, founded in 1853 in Geislingen an der Steige. Later, it acquired several companies incorporating their specialties into the group. In 1890, WMF acquired the Kunstanstalt für Galvanoplastik München, which specialized in electrotyping of statues for buildings, fountains and gardens. This became the Abteilung für Galvanoplastik (Galvano plastic Division) of WMF. During the 1920s, Abteilung für Galvano plastic produced large-scale Renaissance and Art Deco bronzes.
