Bambara puppet figurine, African tribal art, circa 1950

About the Item

TRIBAL ART Large traditional puppet figurine with articulated arms. Polychrome hardwood resting on its steel base. A favorite for this old puppet figurine from Mali dating from the 1950s. Featuring a helmet and a white beard, the captivating, almost hypnotic look of the doll invites you to a puppet show, the traditional Sogo B. The presence is singular, unique and charismatic. In hand-painted natural wood, it has some defects on the upper part (around the edge of the helmet) and micro cracks from drying. We note a few details such as the presence of the color red in the palms of the hands and the wearing of a watch on the right arm. The patina is just superb and gives the object all its authenticity and singularity. Dimensions: H87 X D25 X L100 cm (arms unfolded)
