Bow English Porcelain Putto Figure With Flowers
About the Item
A scarce antique English porcelain figure of a Putto holding a basket of flowers by the renowned Staffordshire factory Bow and dating from around 1760. The Putto stands raised on an open scroll work base on five legs with the base adorned with flowering shrubs. The boy wears a cloth over one shoulder and carries a basket containing flowers over his right arm and holds out a flower in his left hand. The figure is finely hand decorated in naturalistic colored enamels with good facial detail and wears a garland of leaves with flowers in his hair. The flowers too are brightly colored with elements of gilded highlighting. The figure benefits from having a red painted anchor and dagger mark to the base as used by Bow between 1760 and 1766.
Provenance: Acquired in the UK Art Market in 2011 and held as part of a private collection since.
The figure is offered in good presentable condition with some minor losses to the leaves and flowers as is customary with such pieces.
