Bronze Figurine Sculpture Hoop Dancer After D H Chiparus, Art Deco Circa 1920s
About the Item
This is a solid bronze figurine of a dancing lady called Hoop Girl after D H Chiparus, on an Onyx base, dating to the Art Deco period, Circa 1925 to 1935.
The figure is beautifully sculpted in very good detail- see the skirt and feet.
The casting is made of bronze, which we think probably had a silvered finish originally and is visible on some parts of the piece where their has been less rubbing - see the skirt and hat. The base is made of a light green onyx which is tapered and chamfered on its edges.
The bronze has a lovely depth of color which is difficult to capture in a photograph. The bronze is very well patinated showing colour variation with a lighter color to the high points of the figure where it has been handled and polished over the years. The bronze sits on a figured light green onyx base which compliments the bronze figure well.
An illustration of a very similar bronze figure, attributed to D H Chiparus and on the same shaped base and of the same dimensions is illustrated on page 324 in the book; Millers Art Nouveau & Art Deco , published by Octopus Publishing The figure is named "Hoop Girl" . Another variant of the Hoop Girl, in Gilt Bronze and Ivory, again by Chiparus, is illustrated on page 15 in the book: Art Deco Sculpture by Victor Arwas, published by Academy Editions, London.
We date this piece firmly in the Art Deco period, circa 1920 to 1930.
We cannot find any signatures or markings on this piece.

View AllArt Deco Lady Figurine Table Lamp Bronze Sculpture, French circa 1930
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a stunning figurine table lamp of a nude lady bronze Figurine sculpture made in France, circa 1930.
The figurine is heavy and made of bronze metal with good detail. It has been cold painted with a green colour which has worn away in places, showing a patinated bronze colour beneath. The lady is stood on a round ball above a shaped shell like base. The figure is holding the lamp above her head with the electric cable running into the base and vertically up her back to the lamp fitting above. A coloured spherical glass shade firmly sits in the dished support.
The light is currently fitted with a small bayonet fitting, the whole electrical fitting having been PAT tested for safety compliance in the UK. The fitting could easily be modified to suit the electricity supply of the country where it might be used .
This piece is typical of the Art Deco aesthetic, with the sleek lines of the nude girl figure holding the globe light above.
The lamp is in full working order.
This is a substantial heavy piece weighing about 2.5Kg unpacked.
