About the Item

Ceramic sculpture respresenting a Water Carrier - designed by Wilhelm Bormann - manufacture attributed to Ernst Wahliss Wien - Viennese Secession circa 1903 Austrian Art Nouveau - Jugendstil The Austrian sculptor Wilhelm Bormann studied at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts from 1898. He worked in the Viennese Mosaic Workshop Leopold Forstner and from 1934 was a lecturer at the Vienna University of Technology. The Vienna School of Arts and Crafts presented his models at several exhibitions and the Goldscheider company produced some of his designs. One of Bormann's best-known works is the design of the entrance portal to the Allina private commercial school in Vienna. Our figure with the evocative name “The Source” was probably executed by Ernst Wahliss around 1903. Its paintwork is strongly reminiscent of Gustav Klimt's fashion designs and is a classic example of Secessionist aesthetics. The sculpture is marked with "W Bormann" on the plinth.

Bohemian Glass Vase Loetz circa 1901 Viennese Art Nouveau Yellow Gold Silver
By Loetz Glass
Located in Klosterneuburg, AT
Vase, Johann Loetz Witwe, unidentified decoration, ca. 1901, signed "Loetz Austria" This elegantly curved vase with its luminous gold shimmering decoration gives it a fascinating appearance. The applied dots evoke images of water lilies, whose color spectrum ranges from silver-yellow to violet and blue depending on the incidence of light. The vertically drawn silver-blue threads emphasize the presence and size of the 31cm high body of the vase. The iridescent decoration is accentuated particularly by the organically curved basic form with its triple folded and expressively curved mouth. It allows us to experience the beauty of the vase's silver-yellow interior even from a distance. This exquisite work of art glass is destined for a true Art Nouveau heart...
