This Beautiful Bronze Beauty is full of fabulous Jim Bass SASS!!!! Isn’t it PHENOMENAL??? We certainly think so!! It’s always extra fun when we get to give a little shout-out to a local Topeka, Kansas sculptor/artist that gained national fame through his accomplished career creating masterpieces such as this incredible bronze sculpture!! It is composed of a Cubist style bronze figure with block colorization boasting rich colors of red, aqua, gold, and white mounted upon a lovely rectangular walnut block base, signed and dated on the bottom. It is titled “Homage to Nancy Keith” and it is #2 of 8 editions. Fun Fact… Cubist is an early 20th Century avant-garde art movement that revolutionized European painting & sculpture developed primarily by Pablo Picasso & Georges Braque. It challenged traditional artistic notions and contexts and paved the way for abstract art! This fantastic Jim Bass sculpture has features and structures much in the manner of Pablo Picasso bearing a sense of depth, multiple perspectives, abstract features, and geometric form… it’s ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS!!! It is going to be incredible on a sofa or console table in your living room, upon a shelf or the mantle above the fireplace, or anywhere in your home that needs a touch of Cubist style MAGNIFICENCE!!! Jim Bass was born in Topeka, Kansas in 1933 where he graduated from Topeka High School and The University of Kansas. He went to Mexico where he studied lost-wax casting, married his wife & fellow artist Jean Ison, and together they crafted a beautiful home in Kansas, raised their two children, and built Bass Studios & Foundry. They made their home an artist’s haven where they & family created sculptures, art, tapestries, furniture, & gained National fame & notification. He was a renowned master at his craft of sketching, sculpting, and bronze work. For over six decades he refined his bronze work with many sculptures throughout the Midwest where he has countless public works on display. He lost his wife in 2011 but he continued creating highly skilled artwork and sculptures, served at the First Congressional Church, and lead the Auburn Boy Scout Troop 117 for 23 years. Mr. Bass passed away at 86 in 2020. Organic Modern Cast Bronze Bowl Sculpture with Fish Design by John Forsythe
Located in Topeka, KS
Fabulous organic modern bronze fishbowl sculpture by John Forsythe comprised of cast bronze with golden bronze and green patination. Gorgeous vintage condition with no outstanding flaws that we have found. Please see photos. Circa 1993. No human being, however great, or powerful, was ever so free as a fish – John Ruskin, Picture Quotes. Just look at this magnificent cast bronze bowl sculpture with fish design created by John Forsythe. A decorative bowl comprised of a cast bronze water whirlpool with swimming fish caught in the spinning currents, their half bodies and patinated green tails distending from the swirling water and a fish tail protruding from the exterior base of the bowl. You feel the struggle of trying to stay above water and complete your journey. Surrounded by a cast bronze rim trimmed with shiny green bubbles or fish eggs as to represent salmon and their spawning. Salmon lay an enormous number of eggs because they face a lot of adversity on their journey to becoming an adult, and while we aren’t sure these fish are in fact salmon, it certainly speaks to the realities of the course of life. Overcoming hardships and struggles and new beginnings. This sculpture is unique and one of only fifty created by John Forsythe, so it is sure to be a sought-after piece for collectors. In the style of organic modern or fantasy, this piece would be gorgeous displayed on your dining table, display cabinet or buffet in the family room, or on the coffee table in the living room. John Forsythe knew at an early age that he wanted to be an artist. He graduated from Emporia State University in 1976 with his BFA and started working with metals. He was employed as manager of Oxbow Foundry and befriended Eldon Tefft, Founder of the International Sculptor Guild and Chair of the University of Kansas Art...
