About the Item

Presumably based on the work of the Flemish sculptor François Duquesnoy (1597-1643), also known as Il Fiammingo. A small series of Chelsea figures from the late 1740s was also based on his work; and Wedgwood also produced five examples. While it can stand alone, the pose suggests this model was part of a larger group. Prov: Taylor Coll, Dudley Delevinge Coll, Armin B Allen NY.

Toper is an old English word for a drunk. Annulet Mark. Prov: Taylor Coll, Albert Amor...
