About the Item

An elegant and high quality French 19th century Neo-Classical st. Ormolu, patinated Bronze, and Rouge Griotte marble statue, signed Deniére. This beautiful statue of Erato and Calliope is raised on an oval shaped Rouge Griotte marble base with mottled edges and a berried laurel vine above the step. Atop the marble base is an Ormolu base topped with a patinated Bronze platform. Above the patinated Bronze platform are Erato and Calliope that not only serves as a beautiful decorative object but also embodies rich symbolic meanings related to artistic inspiration, the unity of different art forms, and the cultural values of enlightenment and education. It reflects the reverence for the classical ideals of beauty, knowledge, and poetic expression prevalent in 19th century France. Each beautiful maiden is displayed in classical attire while they hold hands and are adorned with floral head pieces and musical instruments such as a lyre and harp at their side. This meaningful statue of Erato and Calliope can elevate a room's aesthetic by symbolizing the harmonious blend of music and literature, embodying artistic inspiration, and reflecting a sophisticated appreciation for classical culture.

Large 19th Century Classical Bronze statue of Amalthea
Located in Brighton, Sussex
A very good quality large 19th century bronze statue of a semi nude female of Amalthea in Marie Antoinette’s dairy. The original is marble from 1787.. Other names, like Adrasteia, Ide, the nymph of Mount Ida...
