French 19th century Terra Cotta sculpture of Diana, signed Albert Ernest Carrier

About the Item

A charming French 19th century Terra Cotta sculpture of Diana the Huntress, signed Albert Ernest Carrier. The wonderful statue is raised on an oval ground like base on which stands the beautiful Diana the Huntress and her dog. The wonderfully detailed dog sits with raised paw looking up at his mistress, who is leaning on a column and partially covered by a flowing garment and leaning down extending her right hand towards the dog, while holding a quiver full of arrows in her right hand. Diana's hair is elegantly tied from behind and features a crescent which symbolizes and identifies her as the Roman "goddess of light and of the moon".
