About the Item

French Bronze Sculpture of Mercury Signed F. Barbedienne Fondeur, Ca. 1860. This bronze statue of Mercury Volante is a copy of the late 16th Century bronze by the great Italian sculptor Giambologna. The statue, signed Ferdinand Barbedienne Fondeur has imprinted the factory seal with the image of Achille Collas inventor and patentee of the Reduction Mecanique. Around the end of the 1838 in Paris Ferdinand Barbedienne and Achille Collas established the “Collas and Barbedienne” foundry, later on it was called just Barbedienne. Their specialty was to copy and reproduce ancient bronzes kept in famous museums. The Grand-Tour period favored their company as wealthy people required copies of important bronzes in order to decorate their homes. Please note: The listed measurements are Base included
