About the Item

Bio from Wiki: Germany Gustav Adolf Bredow studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1892 and worked in the studio of Clemens Buscher as well as in various other studios and workshops in northern Germany. In 1897 he settled in Stuttgart. One of the focal points of his work was sacred sculpture. He was awarded the honorary title of Professor. In 1914 Bredow stayed in Buenos Aires for a few months.[3] During the First World War (possibly on the return journey from South America) he was taken prisoner by the British on the Isle of Man. In the internment camp there, Bredow set up a drawing school, where the painter Franz Sales Gebhardt-Westerbuchberg became one of his students.[4] Despite the general decline in sculptural building decorations in architecture in the 1920s, he continued to be successful during this period. B. his participation in the German Art Exhibition in 1930 in the Munich Glass Palace is documented.[5] From 1940 to 1944 he was represented at all major German art exhibitions in Munich with a total of ten works, of which Goebbels acquired the metal sculpture Brunnenputte for 4000 RM in 1944.[6] Bredow was included in the God-gifted list as an important artist of the Nazi state.[7]
