About the Item

A charming and large scaled Italian 19th century white Carrara marble statue of a Venus and Cupid. The young Venus is seated on a rock with a flowing garment draped over her leg while gazing lovingly at the winged Cupid. She has one hand on her knee while the other is holding a scepter. Cupid is kneeling by her side with both of his hands in the air seemingly reaching for Venus. Wonderful expressions and intricately carved throughout.

Above is the beautiful Ariadne seated on her panther with her hair tied in a richly sculpted updo while holding an exceptional flowing garment. In Greek mythology, Ariadne was daughter to Minos, the son of Zeus. Associated with mazes and labyrinths because of her involvement in the myths of the Minotaur and Theseus.
