About the Item

Refined Italian biscuit porcelain sculpture inspired by Canova’s “Psyche Revived by Cupid’s Kiss.” Finely modeled with detachable wings and a soft marble-like finish. Italy, circa 1890–1910. This exquisite Italian biscuit porcelain sculpture captures one of the most poetic moments in neoclassical art: Psyche Revived by Cupid’s Kiss, after Antonio Canova’s celebrated marble of 1790. The scene symbolizes the awakening of the soul through divine love and was a favorite subject among collectors during the late 19th century. Executed in pure white biscuit porcelain, the surface has the soft, matte glow of carved marble. The modeling is exceptionally detailed, from the feathers of Cupid’s wings to Psyche’s delicate hands. The detachable wooden-pinned wings are typical of fine Italian porcelain work from around 1900, linked to the Capodimonte and Ginori (Doccia) traditions. On the underside appears the impressed model number 2266 with a small laurel-leaf stamp and an original hand-written Italian label with inventory notes — an authentic period feature confirming its late 19th- to early 20th-century origin. Excellent condition overall, with one professionally restored finger on Psyche’s right hand, barely visible and stable. A timeless and romantic centerepiece that radiates grace and serenity, ideal for both classic and modern interiors. Dimensions: 32 cm H × 35 cm W × 20 cm D (12.6 × 13.8 × 7.9 in) Material: Biscuit porcelain (unglazed) Origin: Italy Period: Circa 1890 – 1910 Style: Neoclassical / Grand Tour Condition: Excellent; minor professional restoration to one finger, otherwise intact. Original underside label and impressed model number 2266.
