About

"L'amour mettant une corde à son arc". "Lemire"; Sauvage, Charles-Gabriel (Lunéville, France, 1741- Paris, 1827). Bronze patinated on rectangular base in ocher marble. The present work shows, elevated on a pedestal of marble, a figure of Cupid boy putting a rope in his bow. Nicknamed "Lemire", Charles-Gabriel Sauvage was a French artist. Son of founder, Lemire was part of the porcelain factory of Niderviller, becoming artistic director of the same in 1781; In 1802, went to the Parisian factory of Dihl et Guérjard and, on the death of Christophe Dihl, the sales of materials and other elements of the manufacture dispersed the molds of the works of Lemire, giving rise to the production of bronze models of his sculptures. The marble model that the master made to present it to the Paris Salon of 1814 is currently preserved in the Musée Historique de Lorraine in Nancy (at the Louvre Museum in Paris). Size: 30 x 17 x 50 cm.
