Large Egyptian Nude Woman Bronze Sculpture of Cleopatra by Michael Mörtl

About the Item

Striking bronze sculpture of a nude Cleopatra looking at herself in wonder in a mirror. She's wearing a cobra snake head band piece and her hair in braids. She is standing on a highly decorated stool. The front section of the stool is gilded and has two cobras on either corner with a woman with feathered arms spread eagle with the sun above her head kneeling on an island with water underneath. The other corners have cobras as well and the side panels have water and also an hieroglyphic bird symbol. The back panel has water and is signed Mich Mörtl. Michael Mörtl (1878-1939) was a Austrian sculptor and ceramics artist. The base is marble. The marble has chips. From Abart: Michael Mörtl (Austrian) * Born 3-30-1878 , Fürnitz , Austria † Died 12-41-1939 , Karlovy Vary (Karlovy Vary) , Czech Republic ceramicist, sculptor notes: studied at the Vocational School of Woodworking and the School of Applied Arts in Vienna, a member of the Carinthian Art Association received a silver medal at the art exhibition in Klagenfurt in 1912. designed a series of fountains after leaving Znojmo to Charles, he boiled porcelain sculptures.
