Beautiful set of 5 vintage kokeshi dolls from the late Showa period, circa 1970s-80s, handmade and painted, Japan. This beautiful and original set comes from a private collection in Japan, very decorative and exceptional objects with a high collector's value. Specific areas have different types of kokeshi, they can be roughly divided into 11 different types, each with a distinctive shape or style. These dolls are very popular with collectors, they are also said to bring good luck, which makes them extra popular! Very nice objects to decorate a children's room or living room. What exactly are kokeshi dolls? Kokeshi originate from Japan and are simple wooden dolls without arms or legs that have been made as children's toys for over 150 years. Hand-turned from wood, they have a simple body and head with a few thin, painted lines to define the face. The body often has floral and ring designs. This beautiful collection is in good vintage condition, some have faded body drawings, some others have stains and superficial scratches, but they still look fantastic, check the photos for more details! Dimensions: from small to large: 16cm, 20cm, 22cm, 24cm and the largest measures 30cm high. Diameter of the head ranges from 5 to 9cm, diameter of the body ranges from 3 to 7cm.
