Rare & fabulous Antique Napoleon lll clock garniture with incredible quality bronze sculptures.
You will rarely see a clock garniture with bronzes of this quality and detail. The bearded thinker/philosopher on top of the marble clock is simply astonishing. His natural poisture, his hair, face and hands, but also his clothes, it is all of a quality and detail that only a master sculptor can achieve. And the patina also is just perfect. The philosopher is marked on the back and it reads 'BE x'.
The two bronze female (classical maiden) sculptures are in fact two stunning candle holders and they too stand on beautifully shaped black marble bases with cartouches. These majestic candle holders are marked on the sides 'L.V.E. ROBERT' (Louis Valentin Elias Robert) and on the back they read 'AD x'.
The black marble clock comes with a circular dial face with gilt Roman numerals and this clock has a well working movement. The movement is stamped 'DENIERE / A PARIS' and '2165'. On the bottom it reads A.Blacher and there also is a cachet with 'MEDAILLE D'OR / Paris / 1827'.

This bronze model is based on the design of an original ancient Roman marble fountain, which was discovered in the city of Pompeii. In 79 AD, the volcano Versuvius erupted, causing the neighboring cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum to become submerged under layers of molten lava and ash. Although the volcanic eruption caused devastation for the people of these ancient cities, the thick layers of ash and pumice preserved many ancient objects and architecture. One of these was the ancient marble fountain that provided the model for this bronze. The original marble was found in the remains of an aristocratic family's garden, where it had stood as an ornamental garden fountain that featured the dolphin's open mouth as a waterspout.

Joseph-Michel-Ange Pollet born in Palermo on March 11, 1814 and died in Paris on January 1, 18711 is a French sculptor.
Born in Palermo to French parents, Joseph-Michel-Ange Pollet studied sculpture in Italy with Bertel Thorwaldsen, Valerio Villareale and Pietro Tenerani. He came to Paris in 1836, then stayed in Ghent in 1838. After another stay in Italy from 1843 to 1845, he settled permanently in Paris and exhibited for the first time at the Salon of 1846. He won a medal of third class in 1847, a second class medal in 1848 and a first class medal in 1851. In 1855 he was awarded a second class medal at the Universal Exhibition. He was named Knight of the Legion of Honor by decree of June 14, 18563.
Of neoclassical formation, the work of Pollet oscillates between this current and that of romanticism. In 1840, for the bicentenary of his death, he produced the bust of Rubens, the original plaster of which is kept at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium. The pedestal, in the shape of a column with a smooth shaft, elevates the sculpture and highlights it with its elegance of lines and lack of exaggerated decorative elements (aside from some moldings in what would be the capital and the marbled marble change in the upper piece, on which the sculpture is located). The figure of the girl, carved in a white marble of great quality, is sitting, looking towards the distance, and with a bouquet of flowers in her arms and a medal hanging from a cord around her neck. When sitting on a basket with flowers the figure is softened, in addition to enhancing it with the chromatic contrast existing between the flowers and the basket (patinated bronze) and the figure. The hair of the girl, with a pictorial waves without a powerful chiaroscuro, contrasts with the detail of the dress, perfect both in the ruffles of the neck and in the embroidery of the fabric and with which, in addition, an "informal" touch has been added to show fallen a strait and the skirt wrinkled. This lack of formality fits perfectly with the theme, and is slightly accentuated by presenting the figure with socks (or stockings, dropped) and without shoes. The realism of the face (attenuated with a slight idealization) suggests that it is a child portrait.
The pictorial treatment of the figure and the roses relate it to artistic approaches that emerged during the 19th century and with a certain aesthetic and skill level.
