Russian Silver Troika Sculpture, I. Sazikov after E. Lanceray, Moscow, ca. 1875
By Ignaty Sazikov
Located in New York, NY
The sculpture depicts an elderly peasant, standing to his full height with reins in his hands; behind him in a sleigh are his son and grandson, who drives the horses with a whip. Dressed in typical peasant clothes, all three have very expressive faces. The entire composition of this outstanding silver sculpture, including the original marble base are executed with such high skill that one could imagine the steam pouring out of the horses’ nostrils in the frosty air; and hear the sound of crisp snow under their hooves. The troika gallops at full speed, leaving behind clear traces of horseshoes on the virgin snow. Notes: There are intact little bell on the yoke of a central horse, and an original detachable hallmarked whip. The original, intricately executed marble base is an integral part of the whole composition. The sculpture was never cleaned or polished, and has an original patina. Markings: Fully hallmarked with maker's marks IS (for Ignaty Sazikov...

His allegorical Art Nouveau works often depicted women, children, cherubs, and historical figures adorned with floral motifs and ornaments, and were influential to other artists working at the time. Born in Dijon, France in 1855 to a celebrated family of sculptors, including his father Auguste Moreau, he went on to regularly exhibit his work at the Paris Salon from 1861 on. The artist died in 1919 in France. Carrara marble - is a type of white or blue-grey marble popular for use in sculpture and building decor. It is quarried at the city of Carrara in the province of Massa-Carrara (Tuscany, Italy). Carrara marble has been used since the time of Ancient Rome; the Pantheon and Trajan's Column in Rome are constructed of it. Many sculptures of the Renaissance, such as Michelangelo's David, were carved from Carrara marble. For Michelangelo at least, Carrara marble was valued above all other stone, except perhaps that of his own quarry in Pietrasanta. The Marble Arch in London and the Duomo di Siena are also made from this stone, as are the interiors of Manila Cathedral, the cold-white marbles of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque and the campus of Harvard Medical...

19th Century, French, Bronze Sculpture by Edouard Drouot
Located in Dublin, IE
Edouard Drouot (1859-1945), Dawn. Aurora as large stretching nude on wave with rising sun, patinated bronze on Rouge marble shaped plinth base, signed ''E. Drouot'' Artists Biography: Edouard Drouot (1859 - 1945) Edouard Drouot was born in Sommevoire in the Haut Marne region on 3rd April 1859. Early in his career, Drouot was a successful painter, in addition to his sculpture, receiving an honourable mention at the Universal Exposition in Paris in 1900. Drouot studied in Paris under the renowned and successful Emile Thomas 1817-82, a sculptor who received numerous state commissions and produced portraits, monuments, allegorical and mythological works in marble and bronze. Drouot also studied under Mathurin Moreau (1822-1912), one of the renowned family of sculptors in bronze and marble. Drouot himself was highly successful and widely collected. He produced portrait busts, figurative works and both allegorical and mythological subjects. These are distinguished by a sense of movement, particularly evident in allegorical works such as “Printemps”, his Salon exhibit of 1897 or “L’Echo” with its swirling drapery, seen also in his allegory of Dusk. Drouot exhibited at the Salon from 1889 and continued to exhibit into the twentieth century, works such as “L’Eveil du Printemps” of 1906 and “Andromache” of 1912. Drouot worked in bronze, producing animalier works, North African subjects...
