Carl Kauba (1865-1922)
Carl Kauba was born August 13, 1865 in Vienna, Austria. The son of a shoemaker, Kauba chose to follow his calling into the world of art. Collectors now rank him in a class with Remington and Russell as one of the great portrayers of American Western. His subjects were typically Native American Indians, Cavalrymen, Cowboys, and Roughriders. In addition to his American bronzes, Kauba produced a lifetime’s worth of Austrian statuary. His work became fully appreciated on both sides of the Atlantic.
Carl studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under professor Laufenberg. Later he would study at the academies under Carl Waschmann and Stefan Schwartz. Next, he went to Paris in 1886 to further study before he set off for the U.S.
Kauba’s fascination with the West was fired by the stories of the German writer, Carl May, whose tales of Western adventure were well known throughout Europe. Most authorities feel that he was about twenty-five years old when he traveled widely throughout the American West. He then returned to Austria with voluminous notes, sketches, and several models of Western sculpture...

Ernst Fuchs (13 February 1930 – 9 November 2015) was an Austrian painter, draftsman, printmaker, sculptor, architect, stage designer, composer, poet, singer and one of the founders of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism. In 1972, he acquired the derelict Otto Wagner Villa in Hütteldorf, which he restored and transformed. The villa was inaugurated as the Ernst Fuchs Museum in 1988. Fuchs studied sculpture with Emmy Steinbock (1943), attended the St. Anna Painting School where he studied under Professor Fröhlich (1944), and entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna (1945) where he began his studies under Professor Robin C. Portrayal of the dancer Lucie Kieselhausen in an exotic costume consisting of a jacket and knee-length skirt with star decoration in brown, blue and yellow, sleeves and skirt part with tiered flounces with a wavy hem, the waisted jacket on the side and on the back with three peaks similar to a bellflower, jagged headgear with long colored feathers curved upwards, floral decorative element on the side of the posing figure at her feet.
The figure is based on a black, round base with the artist's signature 'Kostial' on the top next to the figure.
The dancer and actress Lucy Kieselhausen (1897 - 1926) was a student of Grete Wiesenthal and was a successful German dancer at the beginning of the 20th century. Lucy Kieselhausen appeared in three silent films: 'Thousand and one Woman' (18), 'The Seventh Great Power' and 'Earth Spirit'. In addition to her dancing activities, Lucy Kieselhausen also wrote the dance drama 'Salambo', which was set to music by Heinz Tiessen. In 1926, Lucy Kieselhausen died in a tragic accident caused by a petrol explosion with a burning jet of flame in her bathroom. Source: Cyranos ch
