An original 1850 Neoclassical parcel gilt, silvered bronze statue of Venus

About the Item

This exquisite mid-nineteenth century sculpture features a nude woman in silvered bronze with parcel gilt accents. The female figure embodies grace and allure, reminiscent of the goddess Venus. She is depicted in a kneeling posture with a water jug beside her, showcasing a graceful, welcoming hand gesture conveying an inviting presence. This statue symbolizes abundance, sexuality, fertility, beauty, luck, and love. The craftsmanship is remarkable, with jewel-quality tooling and chasing that highlights the exquisite detailing on the base and her tousled golden locks. The delicate parcel gilt nails and toenails further enhance the overall beauty of the piece. The Greek goddess figure rests on an octagonal two-tone marble base, composed of griotte marble in a deep cherry red to brown color. This base also features black Belgian marble trim with beveled edges and a bullnose molded surround.
