About the Item

A very stylish studio pottery sculpture titled Mother and Child by renowned potter Peter Hayes and made around 1996. The sculpture is mounted on a rectangular slate base and is abstract in form with a mother holding her arm around a child who seems to be caressing her. The pottery figure has a textured and burnished surface and is raku fired in mottled red and brown glazes. The figure has an indistinct impressed mark to the lower front body. In good condition. Provenance: The Dayabandhu (Michael Evans) Collection, London. Acquired from The Gibbs Gallery, Canterbury in 1996.
