Rozet René, "Musician" Carrara Marble Sculpture, Period 19th C

About the Item

This statuary marble sculpture was made in the last decades of the 19th century by the French sculptor René Rozet. He is mastering in sculpted bust portraits when he designs this very fine marble sculpture of a young musician. His haircut and outfit indicate its provenance from the late medieval period. The young musician is represented with his body and right hand reaching to the right, which is energizing the posture and an innovating in the notion of movement into sculpture. As his head is turned toward the left, he holds with his left gloved hand a sheet of paper and a quill, leaning on a mandolin. The posture is very delicate, from the wind in the boy’s hair to the fine naked hand reaching outside of the sculpture base. René Rozet had known success especially in the French press for this statuary marble sculpture manifesting is a beautiful example of as restyled past that will inspire artists of the late 19th century.
