A scarce vintage ceramic art sculpture by legendary 20th century Mexican artist Sergio Bustamante (b.1949).
Fantastical surrealist style hand painted polychrome earthenware sculpture, titled "Man at the Window," depicting figural man seated at window, behind wall with protruding fish heads and lizard motif, painted "te amo" at front building facade, finely detailed and beautifully colored, finished on all sides, artist signed lower right Sergio Bustamante (Mexican, b.1949), Tonala, Mexico, numbered 13/50.

Sergio Bustamante
Sergio Bustamante studied architecture at the University of Guadalajara, and sold his artwork while in school, beginning in 1960. After graduating, he worked with local ceramicists, eventually opening his studio. In 1972, Bustamante moved to Amsterdam, where he learned more about painting and design. In 1975, he established his Family Workshop Studio in Tiaquepaque, Mexico. His monumental sculptures can be found in several cities, including Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, and Tiaquepaque.

A uniquely brilliant American ceramic sculpture capturing the essence of a buffalo, in southwestern modern style by celebrated husband and wife artists Gene (1945-2006) & Rebecca Tobey (b.1948).
This large sculpture dates to the late 20th century, decorated in rich polychrome design depicting lizard and dessert mountainous / southwestern landscape in mixed media glazed and matte finishes. Reticulated design to buffalo's back. Open panels revealing red glazed interior add depth and dimension, raised and incised exterior decoration. Signed, "Tobey" to the foot. Bottoms of feet covered in soft felt. Truly a remarkable artistic example.
