About the Item

Large vase-sculpture in blue glazed earthenware by Angelo Ungania (1905-1996). Unique piece. Signed. Angelo Ungania studied at the Royal School of Ceramics of his city. In the early twenties, working as a decorator with manufacturing "La Faience" Paul Zoli. In 1924, he lends his work at the artistic ceramics "Melandri-Focaccia" factory working with the company to introduce the casting technique in Faenza. In 1930 collaborates with Pietro Melandri to the realization of the ceramic panel of the Madonna del Roseto, commissioned by the Hospital of the Infirm of Faenza, placing even his signature alongside that of the master. From the early thirties began traveling to Italy collaborating with various manufacturers including Montelupo Fiorentino, the "grace" of Deruta and Perugia the "Salmandra" the "Cantagalli" in Florence, the "Fanciullacci." At the end of the decade, after working a period of time with the manufacture of Faenza "Casadio" he moved to Milan, where in addition to devote himself to teaching at the Royal Institute of Art, opens a first furnace in company with the engineer Gabbanelli, then he moved to Sesto San Giovanni, a second in collaboration with his wife, the ceramist Maria Moretta, married in 1944. Sesto San Giovanni in the laboratory hosts numerous artists including Joseph Tampieri and Dominic Matteucci. In 1941 he won the Faenza Award that is also assigned the following year. At the end of the fourties he invites Lucio Fontana to realize some works at his studio. In the fifties he moved to Ruta of Camogli in Liguria where he organizes a ceramics workshop in his villa. Subsequently Ungania Angelo, during his short stays Faenza, collaborating occasionally with the "Bottega Casadio" Faenza.
