About the Item

This finely cast bronze depicts a very young boy jockey standing with his original (yes original) crop. The crop has the same coloration as the boy's body. It was originally attached to his back, it has come loose, but has never left his possession, most remarkable considering that this is over 100 years old. Mounted on the original black onyx base. A beautiful little Vienna bronze, and done in the style of Franz Bergmann.

A very rare 19th century cast iron equine hitching post in the form of a jockey. The jockey is classically dressed in the 19th century riding attire, comprising of a black riding hat, red jacket and cream jodhpurs. The jockey is poised on a moulded plinth base, with one arm raised, holding out for use as a hitching post for tying up horses for grooming. He would be holding a stirrup or lantern which is missing. The sculpture is boasting a nicely weathered patina revealing its age. With its nice proportions and rusty finish, this Turn of the Century English iron jockey...
