About the Item
This remarkable pair of engraved glass slabs, created by Karel Bečvář for the famed Moser glass company, features a handsome man in profile and a nude male youth, accompanied by a quote from Plato: "What A Handsome Face He Has But ... If He Knew You Were Naked You Would Forget He Had A Face, He Is So Beautiful In Every Way." The engraving is superb, and the pairing of male figures and an sensual quote from ancient Greece is unique and powerful. The engraving is deeper and crisp-edged for the man's hair, but softer and velvety for the seated male nude. Bečvář is also known for public sculptures in Prague, such as the obelisk on Tilleho náměstí street in the Hlubočepy district. The glass sculpture was made in 1995, and is signed.
