About the Item

Celebrating the formation of the General Bronze Corporation, this beautifully crafted bronze box was created in 1928. It is decorated with high-style Art Deco motifs on two sides, and with Italian Renaissance motifs complete with griffins and a shield marked with the company's GBC monograph on the other two sides. The interior is lined with cedar. The renowned Roman Bronze Works and the Tiffany Studios Bronze & Iron Plant, together with the John Polachek Bronze and Iron Company and the Renaissance Bronze and Iron Works (plus a number of other smaller companies) merged to form the General Bronze Corporation in 1928. The famous Tiffany foundry in Corona, New York (Long Island) continued to be used by GBC.
