Cast Bronze Renaissance Revival Ewer of Massive Size

About the Item

This very large Bronze ewer is finely cast and has many areas of after casting hand chasing and deeply sculpted details. Done in the Renaissance revival style most associated with the robber barons of the last part of the 19th century filling new mansions with newly made antiques and real antiques creating in America the old world their ancestors came from. The decorative elements are cherubs in a bacchanal setting, cherubs riding a mastiff, a ram with wine goblets, oak leaves and grape clusters, Acanthus leaves and flowering vines. The bronze has a lovely rich brown gold patina and appears to be all original with a nice overall rub thru pattern.

  • Pair of Patinated and Polished Bronze Renaissance Revival Candelabra
    Located in Hudson, NY
This pair of candelabra made in France, circa 1880 are designed in the Renaissance Revival style. Well cast in a large number of separate parts and patinated and polished to create drama and decorative detail the pair is of a nice scale without being overly large. Cast as a central column raised on a pyramidal pierced base. The base is centered by grotesque masks and foliate sprays raised up on feet. The shaft leads up to four large branched arms also cast with corresponding foliate sprays issuing from more grotesques. The combination of color and casting create a lively play of light.
