The process for creating this work involved a continuous dialogue with a physical full-size model. The artist discovered this unique form that arose from experimenting with physically twisted material, that emulates the timeless elegance of a figure skater spinning on ice, or a leaf falling from a tree.
Its simple yet complex form changes at every angle, and makes it an intriguing and unique piece for the viewer. 'Twisting' is an example of the artist's signature technique of using tension to create novel forms. This one-of-a-kind sculpture provides a deep sense of serenity that comes from its ability to resonate with nature.

Soo Joo Studio
Soo Joo is a Korean-American artist who works in Seoul, Korea and New York. Although she has a background in fine art, she studied Furniture Design at RISD. She develops novel biophilic design techniques and objects that bring the essence of nature indoors. "At the basic core of my work is an investigation into biophilic design: how non-living, abstract art and objects can still carry the essence of nature, through material and formal language. Through my work, I develop a new visual language that serves as an alternative to geometry, from an East Asian perspective."
