About the Item

17th century Italian gold leaf fragment with pyrophyllite in matrix and decorated with baroque pearls. This fragment was originally a candlestick from a church in Italy. The pyrophyllite is mounted and coordinates with part of the red bole paint of the gold leaf. The pyrophyllite is famously from North Carolina and the baroque pearls are applied to mimic the striated fans of the mineral. The piece is put together by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she collected and transformed the piece with the natural specimens and the period shows that the fragment artifact is originally 17th century.
