About the Item

Donuts. This collection of clay pieces is a collection of unique pieces made for La muerte tiene permiso* with design by Omar Ortiz Franco and production with Elena Felipe and Agripina Felipe, artisans from Michoacán. The beauty of their work lies in the peculiar finish that they give to their hand-painted and molded clay pieces. The colors used are ceramic powder paints that are applied before burning and after the burnishing work, which consists of polishing the piece before burning. The collection explores the possibility of using the geometric and aesthetic elements with which they are already familiar from generations ago when their mothers taught them to work with clay and paint. Nature is his main source of inspiration and their finely crafted thin line drawings include deer, hares, flowers and other elements of Lake Patzcuaro and its surroundings. For Omar, this collection explores the use of color and a first approach to this technique used by the Felipe Master artisans with the premise of not adding any new form other than the ones they already know in their work.

Donuts Dark Vase by Eguzkiñe Egaña Unique Piece. Dimensions: W 20 x D 7 x H 22 cm. Materials: Terracotta slip and enamel. Eguzkiñe Egaña Corta studied advertising and for more than 20 years has worked as a graphic designer. About 12 years ago, surrounded by a completely digital world, she felt the need to create with her hands and it is from there that she took up her drawings and illustrations and began to create with ceramics. She has completed a Master’s degree at the University of the Basque Country: “Ceramics; art and function” and combines her work as a designer and illustrator with contemporary artistic creation. She also teaches ceramics classes at the municipal school of Zarautz, a city in the Basque Country where she lives. She feels the need to explore the relationship between identity and self-knowledge. Work with the concepts; interior, exterior, return, connect, ancestral and artisanal, establishing a relationship between us and our environment, as well as between us and our ancestors, either emotionally, empathetically or through objects that somehow transport us to a hypothetical place in the past, both for its aesthetics and for the ways in which they have been created. Human beings are containers of desires, fears, expectations. Sometimes it is necessary to empty ourselves of everything that clutters the mind. On many occasions the artist works with turned containers...

Unique Colorful Sculpture, Toni Losey
By Toni Losey
Located in New York, NY
Brigette, 2022 (Ceramic, C. 9.8 in. h x 9.4 in. w x 7.9 in. d, Object No.: 4006) Toni Losey’s work hums with an underlying current of rhythm and organization.  The repetition found on the wheel influences her work as Losey intuitively builds sculptural forms mirroring the patterns of growth in nature.  These works evolve within a set of rules developed from her personal interpretation of the natural world. As she attempts to marry technical processes with conceptual prowess, the work that emerges seems to exist outside of the maker, something otherworldly but organic, familiar but new. Losey’s work captures natural progressions found in nature and aims to renew our connection to the planet. Losey, born in the Canadian prairies...
