About the Item
A little bit creepy but very beautiful this petrified unborn cow baby mummy.
Calf mummification occurs when a cow foetus dies inside the womb for to some reason and instead of expelling the foetus like normal, it dehydrates due to the absorption of amniotic fluids and mummifies in the mother’s body over time.
Cows carrying a mummified calf will appear normal and healthy most of the time.
This would be a great addition to a curiosity cabinet.

Very interesting early 20th Century Czech made taxidermy cow "Tur Domácí Bos Taurus" hind leg for classroom study, probably used at a University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
The leg is at least a hundred years old, you can see by the way it is fixed together (the curly iron thread) and the surface ware of the real bones, it is smooth and yellowish.
The iron and wood holder however is probably aded very recently (my guess is in the 80s 90s).
Tur Domácí Bos Taurus (which is Czech and Latin for domestic bovine, or domestic cow) is an even-toed ungulate from the genus Bos of the bovine family...
