Deconstructed Spiny Spider Crab (Maja Brachydactyla) Specimen Under Glass Case
About the Item
Deconstructed Spiny Spider Crab (Maja Brachydactyla) Specimen Under Custom Glass Case.
Maja brachydactyla belongs to the Majidae family and is a type of crab. Initially considered a subspecies of M. squinado, it was later identified as a distinct species through a comprehensive study in 1998. The study successfully distinguished between specimens found in the Mediterranean Sea and those in the Atlantic Ocean, leading to the recognition of the Atlantic specimens as a separate species known as M. brachydactyla Balss, 1922.
The deconstruction technique invented by anatomist Edmé François Chauvot de Beachêne in France in the 19th century involves the meticulous disassembly of all the components of a skull or crustacea. In this case, the pieces are re-articulated and positioned in an exploded array on a copper wire support. This is the same technique as the anatomical drawings of Leonardo da Vinci.
