About the Item

A stunning piece of natural history, this meteorite is a natural Muonionalusta Meteorite with one side sliced & polished which boasts its beautiful, metallic Widmanstätten pattern. The Muonionalusta is a meteorite classified as fine octahedrite, type IVA (Of) which impacted in northern Scandinavia, west of the border between Sweden and Finland, about one million years BCE.The meteorite was first described in 1910 by Professor A. G. Högbom, who named it "Muonionalusta", after a nearby place on the Muonio River. The Muonionialusta iron meteorite is classified as a fine octahedrite IVA. It was discovered in 1906 and given its name based on the nearby Muonio River. This piece does not require a display stand. Truly a unique addition to any collection.
