Golden Yellow Calcite Crystal Mineral Specimen, Elmwood Mine, USA

About the Item

Although calcite is plentiful and diverse, calcite from Tennessee is instantly recognizable and highly sought-after for its twinned, scalenohedral crystal habit. Often, the scalenohedrons are twinned at their base, creating sculptural, doubly terminated crystals that have an overall diamond-like shape. Elmwood specimens also tend to exhibit more translucence than other varieties of calcite and will often appear to glow with just a hint of light. This is an attractive example with a large primary crystal that is not just sizeable but also exhibits the classic doubly-terminated crystal habit and golden coloring for which Elmwood is loved. The crystal has a gemlike appearance thanks to its naturally glossy faces and sharp terminations. With its translucence and golden, honey coloring, the piece appears to glow from within with just a hint of light. The geometric crystal is dramatically positioned across the peak of a contrasting matrix, making for an incredibly sculpturesque display. With its artistic aesthetics and sharp form, it is hard to believe that this marvel of nature is millions of years old. Item reference: #05340.

Despite being among the newer finds in the mineral collecting world, YGX fluorites have distinguished themselves with their enchanting water-color blues, lilacs, and purples and propensity for good form. This is a sculptural example made up of several cubic fluorite crystals...
