About the Item

Artigas is known for amethysts of the darkest and richest hues of purple. Lustrous and richly-toned, they are instantly recognizable and not uncommon in the mineral market. What sets certain specimens apart is when they have multigenerational growth, in beautifully crystallized, unusual formations, like this sculpturesque example. This specimen exhibits a complex combination of three different mineral species. Its matrix (host-rock) comprises densely crystallized, lustrous, deep-purple amethyst crystals from which a vertical, abstract formation of stacked calcite crystals has formed. Many say the calcite resembles a king, complete with a pointed crown. He wields an impressively tall, piercing crystal, shaped like a sword (an extension of the calcite). The “blade” is coated in shimmering, black goethite crystals that give it a dramatic contrast to the rest of the piece. This astounding composition appears to many like a king sailing into battle with his sword drawn and ready. Dimensional, interpretive, and wonderfully formed, this specimen is a work of natural art.

Despite being among the newer finds in the mineral collecting world, YGX fluorites have distinguished themselves with their enchanting water-color blues, lilacs, and purples and propensity for good form. This is a sculptural example made up of several cubic fluorite crystals...
