About the Item
TSAVORITE GARNET
Merelani Hills, Lelatema Mountains, Simanjiro District, Manyara Region, Tanzania
2.55 cm tall x 3.2 cm wide
A variety of grossular garnet, tsavorite was discovered by the late Campbell Bridges in the Tsavo East National Park, Kenya, in the late 1960s. At around the same time, these similar green crystals were being found at Merelani in Tanzania. This is among the finest known tsavorite crystals ever found at Merelani. It is a complete gem crystal of outstanding vivid mint green color; every face appears as if faceted. The crystal is mesmerizing, gemmy, and brilliant, with an inner glow. This perfect textbook shaped crystal sits atop silvery graphite with a bit of white calcite.
